What are the symptoms of engine timing out??

Post by rydale13 »

Gotta issue with my mk4! Idle issue (suprise suprise) lol

Basically my idle was all over the place, anything from 650 to 1100 rpm! The car sounded like it was blippin the accelerator without me actually touching it, and irractic idle when starting from cold.

Not so bad when it got warm, but was still idling funny (sounded like accelerator been blipped)

Anyways i took my car in for a diagnostic last week and they recommended I replace the blue temp sendor and the o-ring, I also had the TB reset also.

Fixed the idle for about a week and then its all back to normal again!

Im thinking my timing might be out???

My cambelt is due so maybe the cambelt teeth have slipped a lil? Whats the symptoms of needing the timing resetting??

Cheers!!

Could be a number of things, including the timing belt not being tensioned correctly.

When was the last time the Spark Plugs & Air filter changed, as this can give a poor idle if they are old & worn/clogged.

Other, but less likely, causes could be, an vacuum air leak on either the throttle body/inlet manifold or associated hoses, low or uneven cylinder compression (head gasket failure?), worn camshaft, blocked injector/fuel injection system.
