 that looks bad but I can't see why its not repairable. Needs dents pulling and a respray by the looks of it. How did it happen? How does the van driver say it was your fault is what I don't understand :?

Yeah it is repairable, however it's all going to cost money which I don't have at this moment in time. Yeah I didn't write the full story, sorry about that, was in quite a rush, but he argues that it was our fault. Firstly, from what I could see, he was an UN-insured, UN-licensed driver! Basically, we were parked behind the van which was parked improperly into the road. As we were pulling out, (I honestly have no idea what he was trying to do), reverses back into us hitting the passenger side. We horn at the guy, the guys comes out looks at the polo then at his van, pretty much a rust bucket and then insists that it was our fault. :? He then argues to us that we pay him £200 and that he won't tell?? As he "knows" I don't have a licence or insurance!!! We refused and then wrote down our details to exchange, we handed over ours, and asked for his and he refused. After a couple of minutes of swearing and shouting, a fellow car of his pulls by and hands him over a slip! Which he then hands to us. With a name, not sure if it was his and the company he worked for.

Called the police and they're just pure bolocks, I have nothing against them, but before I could even finish they said, sorry the only thing you can do is swap details and contact your insurer.

To be honest, I'm not too bothered if the driver doesn't have insurance as long as that vehicle does, they'll be a case to go forward.

Looks like polo show is out of the equation for me

Feel for you fella, it'll take ages to sort out if the details are iffy. Its defo his fault, even if you were stationary and he still reversed he still can't argue his case.

Even if the vehicles insured by another driver, which decides to say he wasn't driving his insurance will say it didn't even happen. You should've taken pictures of the scene for proof too, never know if it'd be useful as evidence.

I had a similar thing happen to me recently with my polo. One of those medium sized trucks decided to go into my side when two lanes were merging. He denied it all and refused to give his details however I took down his Company name, number and his license plate as he drove off. Once I gave that to my insurance company they sorted out everything and had no questions asked from the other side even though the driver admitted it in the first place. Although I guess I had a couple of witnesses which also helped. Try giving all the info you have to your insurance company, I'm sure they have some sot of sysem whereby they can find out who the van is insured with.
