new and in need of some advice
i have had my n reg polo 1.6 gl for around 6 weeks, and although im happy with it there are a few problems which need sorting.... misfire.. when i accelerate it seems to pause now and then and when dropping speed in a gear it seems to hold back/go and so on..... exhaust... when on choke it sounds like a tank, clearly blowing from the front yet settles down when warm with a slight hissing. when i accelerate it blows, had it on a ramp and exhaust man said its ok and got great back pressure???also hear it knocking against car.... any ideas? its a great car with gremlins

the misfire is either
a) moisture in your distributor cap
b) bad spark plugs
c) bad leads
d) worn distributor arm
it happens under load because that's when you need the best spark.
best thing to do is to remove the distributor cap and clean it with wd40 on the inside, same for the arm. check the arm isn't pitted too (where the spark comes from - should be a small dot near the end of the arm.)
if this doesn't work then replace your spark plugs, and then the leads as a final option.
for the exhaust it sounds like it's either blowing or got some baffles blown out. best get a mate to sit in the car whilst you try to find the issue! if it's knocking it should be easy to find. stick your foot on the back of the pipe and rock it side to side. it's probably knocking on the heat shield near the cat.
enjoy your stay!
