Bigger brakes ???????

Post by Bradders »

Im wanting to know my options for going bigger since the remap, and also with having plans for stage 2 one day i want the car to stop as well as it goes.

I had a chat with j from more bhp about his TT 225 set up on the front. ive found some on ebay at £310 delivered, these are delivery milage from a TT225 and include calipers pads discs, is it right that i need to buy different carriers? is this a good price, if not what have other people paid and where from?

Apart from the VAG stuff whats my options? although i expect these will be more expensive, i cant afford daft money.

And finally what about the back? i remember J saying you cant put rear TT`s on for some reason? why is this and what do i need to do/buy?

Cheers in advance. Brad.

Those are the ideal ones to buy.

They come with everything you need.

You have to swap the calipers and carriers on the Polo to go to 312mm.

I fitted that kit on mine. Its a straight bolt on job.

yes, because you have the GTi you'll have separate hubs and carriers, so these should work.

You can get the front carriers and discs from ...

Audi TT180 and 225
Skoda Octavia VRS 1.8T 180
Bora 1.8T 180
Golf 4 1.8T 180

The calipers can be sourced from many models.. all the above plus golf gti 1.8t 150 , TT150, A3 1.8T 150 and loads more. The hardest bit to find is the carriers.

You need 312mm discs, Calipers, carriers and pads... no need for extra hoses.

The 256mm vented rear discs, calipers and carriers you can get from....

Skoda Octavia Vrs 1.8T 180
Bora and Golf 1.8T 180

The rear kit from a TT225 quattro will fit with a spacer kit (the carrier is different because of the 4wd).

You can either get new pads or use the Polo ones as they are the same.

I bought everything of Ebay, took some time to buy them at the right price.. and all my calipers were new/recon...

And defo worth doing all four wheels.... brings everything in balance...

I think my fronts worked out something like this....

Carriers .... £80 (refurbed and painted red)
Calipers .... £90 (refurbed and painted red..like new)
Discs ... £12 from Audi TT
Pads.. Mintex £30

Total including delivery etc... approx £230

The ebay listing at £260 is OK but the postage is way over the top at £50...

This seller used to have a different name something like golf_turbo and the sets were priced at £315 IIRC with free postage.

So he makes the buy-it-now price look cheaper but sting for postage... royal mail standard parcels would be like £12 or close.

Get back off holiday and hit the scrappy ;-) just find a totalled skoda 1.8T vrs 180 and take the fronts and backs. Sure everything will be green but nothing a can of red hamerite cant fix.
