Central Locking pump running continuously...

Post by MikeO »

Hi there - first post... Image

I have a 1999 1.9 diesel Polo CL - scruffy as Hell, but good fun & very economical. The other day I went to lock the car (using the key in the driver's door) and it locked as normal, but the pump kept running. Nothing seemed to make any difference, so in the end I just disconnected the cable running to the pump (I decided not to pull the fuse, as it shares power with the stereo).

Any idea of the cause of this - or where I should start trying to find the cause?

Thanks in advance...

Not sure if it will be the same system as on a 2000 model but i reckon you could have an air leak!!!

Basically you'll have to trace the pipes that come from the pump to the locking system!!! Whilst folowing the pipes visually check for Leaks!!! Might take a bit of time but will save you a load of money by not taking it to a garage!!!

I had similar thing happen on mine after I was playing about at soldering together the speaker wires that had broken in the door. Which is a nightmare when you've just finished working on the car and at 2am ur ready to turn in for the night and then realise u cant actually lock the car :|

It took a good few attempts to make sure the rubber case-ing was properly in place and the plastic surround was screwed in the correct position to ensure no air leak when the CL pump was in action..
