Replacing the Polo
IMO i'd go the the Alfa hands down, its sounds good, interior is good, handling is good and that V6 will give you the power you want.
I drove the grande punto's a while back was quite disappointed the engines do not deliver the power you would expect (I put my foot down on the 1.2 and lets say my tortoise could of reached 0-60 faster and the bigger engines are not much faster, basically its chav speed proof
). The handling is ok, but i found the steering was getting juggery where the road was vibrating the wheels, which was knocking the steering wheel slightly left to right, making long journeys a pain in the a** .

^ I would buy one of those any day! Seriously mate
An easier find would be an S3. Thats what I would look at.
Its a shame to hear of lots of mk5 polo owners wanting to sell up but I guess when you say it 8 years sounds pretty old. My car will be worth nothing when I come to sell it!
Alfa's reliability is not bad at all, all rumours

i'm all for the clio v6..it was one of the cars i was seriously contemplating getting, but besides the looks & rarity its massively overpriced & underpowered... are you really willing to buy a french mk4 r32 which maybe a bit rarer but is slower, not as reliable, more expensive & not as pretty???
The nail in the coffin for me was the interior though, it looks sooo tacky
If you buy one though, please bring it to a uk-p meet & take me for a drive
