fitting vmaxx coilovers on my polo 9n3, question

i have just opened the box for my coilovers and looked at all the kit, when i put the fronts together there is=nt anything holding the spring down, am i supposed to use the old metal top off my original suspension or what? i know on my mates and others ive seen there is normally a cone shape at the top which you tigten the nut down and it compresses the spring and holds it together, any suggestions?
