1,4 16v - modifications!

Post by MiWi »

Hello!

I´m searching for some parts to my 1,4 16v-engine (1997) and need some advice to find them.

Were can I find:

Camshafts
Exhaust manifold (is that the right name, not the whole system anyway)

Does VW Motorsport sell some nice parts?

You need Schrick cams and a 4-2-1 manifold I presume. I think VW motorsport sell them!

Manifold --> take a Raceland one, it's the exact diameters/specs etc. as Supersprint, only for a lower price, got one for my 8v, works like a charme!

Cams --> no matter which brand you choose, make sure they're the right ones! there's major difference in cams for either 1.4 16v and 1.6 16v! Common brands are Schrick, Crane Cams, Cat Cams, Dbilas.

About the manifold: Are it identical between the 16v and the 8v-engine?

About the cams:

Thanks for information! What do you guys think of modificate the original cams? Saw the price off the Schrick cams and that was expensive! Seemed to be about 530 £ for a 256/244 setup.

There is a big difference in the manifold for 8v & 16v, so you should get one specifically for the 16v.

Schrick is very expensive, but new cams are always expensive  and "modding" your original cams is possible more expensive then getting others. The only thing you can mod about it, is the valve-lift, the duration will not be increased considerably.

Okey!

I´ve been searching after the 16v manifold but i can´t find it! Only the 8v more or less. Can you (ore someone) give me a link and solve this little problem? :)

Good information about the cams to,it´s good to know!

I thinking of a setup like this:

Exhaust manifold 4-2-1
Chip (just to higher the rev limiter a bit)
BMC CDA airbox with modificated air inlet to the filter
244/256 cams
Ferrita stainless exhaust with racecat

Should it do any difference to the car?

For a decent manifold, go to motors.ebay.de and type in "facherkrummer polo 16v", you'll find plenty of German sellers there who are all willing to ship abroad to other European countries 8)

And the total should make a good difference to the car's performance, you'll enjoy, get some headwork with that, porting & polishing here and there and you're off in enthusiasm!
