brake lights not working and glow plug flashing

Hello

Hope im posting in the right section, My VW 1.9 diesel POLO 2002 has a glow plug light that has started flashing, this has co incided with the break lights failing to illuminate. After some research, apparently this is linked.
I now need to know if the brake light problem is easily fixed, will it be a fuse? or brake light switch? and if any one has any idea on how to go about fixing this, would appreciate all suggestions!

Replace the brake light switch
