Right-O, booked the car into VW and have heard back today that they have found only the one fault (01596 - Motor for Outside/Recirculated Air Flap) and have determined that the motor itself needs to be replaced.

As we have a VW 'All Component' Warranty - the cost will be fully met by it/them.

I have only made some initial inquiries, but it appears the part itself costs circa £90 +VAT with maybe (and I am spit balling here) 2 hours labour at £60 per hour +VAT to fit?

Considering our Warranty cost £245 to renew, this claim breaks us even :) If i can get some part numbers and actual labour hours I will post back as this seems to be a very frequent fault with these cars (similar Skoda/Seat) also suffer.

Well that's a result for VAG-COM - I thought that any flap motor work was dashboard out - maybe that motor is easier to reach. The other fault could have been a legacy fault - that is why it is usually better to clear faults and see if they reappear. I think that it is best to keep quiet about using non VAG scan tools to your dealer - save that knowledge with them until if or when they "try it on". VAG-COM is a stealth tool - ie it leaves no traces.

Ah, just re-read your posting and its only the recirculating flap motor - I think that just means glovebox and airbag out - so cheaper but much less disturbance to the car.

TBH I don't know exactly too much about the innards of the car to know which specific part will be replaced, however I understand that it is a pig of a job (read: costly) to replace what is effectively a motor-flappy-thingy. I am hoping that not too much dismantling will be required - Gayside are wholly incompetent dealership and I know they wont put it all back together again as it should be (dreaded dashboard rattles).

My costings are only guesstimates (on my part) and conservative ones at that. I will know precisely when the job is done and will post back my findings for the benefit of others.

And yes, I didn't mention VAG.COM ;)

Got the Polo back today - VW reckon its all fixed and all - but until I have run VAG.COM through it I wont be holding my breath!

I couldn't get a copy of the parts required and labour time - as thats billed directly to the Warranty Company, but when pressed, VW did suggest that the 'retail cost' was in the region of £600. Now I know they wouldn't be paid that much by the Warranty Co. - even if it is their own - but did get a glance at the screen which talked about the following items having been replaced:

1 x Flap Motor @ £70
1 x Cabin Temp Sensor @ £25
4 HRS Labour @ £100 per hour

...and of course +VAT on those prices. Warranty was well worth the cost and has been recouped in this one visit - which is always a bonus!

Hope this helps anyone else faced with this problem...
