Rear Discs

Post by thebadun »

Hi,

My Mk5 is a basic 1.4 8v, so I've got rear drum brakes at the moment. How difficult is it to convert them to discs? I know some of the better spec models have rear discs. Seen as I work at Unipart at the moment, I can get good quality discs pads callipers etc at a good price - so is it as simple as replacing like for like, and then putting in new fluid? I read somewhere that some people have done this, so how difficult is it?

Thanks

You'll need the spindels and a different hand brake cable as well IIRC. Haven't attempted it myself, but I've seen a German guide somewhere. How's you German?

Be good if you can find one with the discs at a breakers with no rear end damage, you'd properly knock money off the install too if you or someone you know is good with mechanics.
