Query on 1.2 AZQ engines

Surfing the associated forums ( Seat and Skoda ) there seems to be a little bit of a history of some of these engines suffering from the cam timing slipping causing various levels of damage. It appears that the cam chain sprockets only bolt to the camshafts without any positive loaction. I have a 54 reg motor and wonder if VW at any time addressed this weakness with upgraded parts or modified workshop procedures.?
