6x9 (YES 6x9) issue

Post by Andy1.6 »

I know 6x9s are frowned upon etc but still.

I recently detached mine from mine from the head unit and Im now running them off a 250 watt amp in the boot, however the sound quality is now far worse and bass is not as good. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you got the + and - wires the right way around?

Bad preouts to the amp or a ground loop issue

In reply to the above as far as a 'good' system goes (or any system in fact),
6x9 + Sub = Fail.

I'm gonna leave it at that.

In regards to the original question, I was gonna say check your polarity but Marris89 beat me to it. Is the ground (and wiring in general) alright? f you're running the power and speaker cables down the same side of the car, try having them running on opposite sides...may be a bt of RF interfernce going on mate.

Hope you get it sorted.

Ash :)

I think a lot is down to how system are set up. A 6x9 is a multi task speaker, it takes all the sound range & spits it out, so is not the best in the world for clarity. If you want a quality sound, then go for a set of component speakers (seperate woofer/tweeter) with crossovers. This gives a much better sound, & more controllable by the head unit.

I bought a set of 6.5" JBL component speakers for the back of the Polo & run them off a Rockford Fosgate Punch amp, the speakers & amp are both 2ohm so are pretty punchy. No need for a sub in mine! (had one in there at first, found it too boomy & was competing with the components!)

i run my 6x9s on a different amp to my sub and jus tell the 6x9s amp to not put any low frequencies through the speakers

problem solved

also turn the bass boost right down on the 6x9s
