MPG gone down :(

Post by vw55raz »

Hey all. Just recently upgraded my alloy wheels to the GTI ones on my polo. and i fit a k&N cone induction kit. and my MPG is gone a bit low. i got a 1.4TDi and gives around 60mpg, but now my fuel needle goes very low when the trip counter is on like 40miles after putting in over a gallon. Not sure what it is? could it be the rims and the induction kit , or could it be like a faulty sensor?

THanks

It won't have anything to do with the wheels.

It may be something to do with the air filter though,. If it's setup right the increase in air might have tripped something. Or an incorrect setup could be choking the engine.

How's the temperature?

If you can easily, get someone to run a diagnostics on it on vagcom.,

The induction kit will be sucking more air into the engine. More air means itll need more fuel to burn it.

thats not true JayDee, it can actually increase MPG as the engine is running more effiecently!

ok put in a tenner which normally gives me like 110 miles, and today ive got only 80.. something definetely going wrong. if sumthin wrong with the induction kit, would it come up on the vagcom?

Well it definitely isn't the wheels!! That's as far as my knowledge goes! But I wish i got anywhere near 110 miles from a tenner!

just because it has gone out by 20miles doesnt mean there is something wrong mechanically, id say its the atmosphere, using the heating more, etc petrol doesnt ALWAYS last the same or in this case diesel, but the induction kit will have minimum affect on a car engine this size

come to think of it, i have been using the heating a lot. let me cut down on it and see how it goes, and if it dont work, ill try putting old airfilter back on
