Post by Petrol_Head »

HI,

I WOULD LIKE TO SMOOTH MY BOOT OF THE HANDLE, AND PUT A BOOT ALTERNATOR IN...

I KNOW HOW TO SMOOTH THE BOOT HANDLE...

JUST WANT TO KNOW IF ANYONE CAN SHOW ME HOW A BOOT SOLENOID WORKS?? AND HOW ITS ADAPTED INTO THE CURRENT CENTRAL LOCKING???

REG,
BEN

I think most people connect it to the rear wiper switch once they've de-wipered. If you have a wiring diagram for both I could try and figure it out for you.

well mine works of my remote central locking key. It's pretty much up to how you want it set up.

You could even have a button for it somewhere on the dash

could you not work it so that if you have a de-wipered rear it works off the rear wash/wipe switch at the end of the right hand stalk?

isnt on the spoiler a bit dodgy incase someone notices it then can get into the boot easily?

i got one and its wired up to a switch i got with it on the dash put into one of the blank plates at the button of the dash under the heating controls.

the problem im having is where exactly the boot popper is put in the boot and which one they have as the one i have doesnt seem to work properly so i removed it and put the boot handle back in.... its all still in place and wired up just not connected to n e thing.

Ok... thanks for the responses...

anyone tell me a good secure boot solenoid make... or one of ebay I should look out for....

Also, wiring wise.... if i kept it in its own circuit...

would it be as simple as wiring a switch into a circuit that turns a light on???

Or is their more to it.

You could also try putting it up by your numberplate lights. Or de-wiper the rear and have the grommet as a button 8)

Anymore info would be great. I want to do this but worried about electrical reliability and it not being OEM enough

Funny you should say that, as I've been doing a whole heap of research, and well the newer Passats 2001- 2002, have a boot solenoid, and as it's OEM, there shouldn't really be any question of reliability, the only thing I can't really find, is actual info on wiring looms ect, Although, I wouldn't see how it would be difficult to adapt. If you de-wipered I'm sure you could use all the original wiring to connect it up. However will update you, got a mate that has a passat, so I'll be having a look at the positioning and all the rest of it soon. Will keep you updated!
