Hi..
Just picked up a 1999 1.4 S-Reg in blue.. front wishbone and thermostat done at last MOT.. but I know of no other work.. I'm assuming the cambelt needs doing urgently as I've no proof of it being done and I'm at 98k miles! What else would be advisable to get done? I'm guessing plugs, leads, oil & filter?
Also I've noticed that the passenger window seems to be off its' runners or something as it goes down fine but doesn't like going back up!
Also, the rear wiper washer doesnt work.. (i know it's in the actual blade itself, but doesn't work). Would I be better just removing it completely? If so, how would I do this and patch up the hole?
The rear 3rd brake light doesn't work.. I'll check the fuse tomorrow.. but any other ideas? The car also has rust on the top of the passenger door (golf ball size), and rust around the side of the front bumper, driver door sill, and rear bumper. However, those have all been repaired and covered with polyfilla or something similar.. How easy is it to get a good match and how would I got about preparing the surfaces and respraying them?
The car is a blue colour, and I intend to refurbish the alloys and get theym resprayed in white.. the car is on 16" tyres...
Any cheap, effective modifications to make the car look better? It's already been debadged and im going to tint the side repeaters and back lights.. I've seen a debadged front grill on ebay for about £13..? Any good?

welcome to uk polos. for your service you should change the cambelt as a precaution,then change the following...oil and filter,plugs,air filter,brake pads,dizzy cap and rotor arm.might be worth you getting a vagcom off ebay ,£16 but defo worth having.the windows do play up and ive the same problem which needs fixing.your paint code should be under the boot carpet on a sticker.i bought a grille off ebay and it looks great,plenty you can do like coilovers,remove bump strips ect,had mine for a few months and its getting there,oh the joys of owning a polo

I was hoping to spend no more than £250 absolute maximum on the service at a local garage..? Should that cover it?
