This is my first post on here. Just bought a Mk4 with 100K and the non SDI Diesel Engine. There's a few things I'd like to know.
I'm going to give it a good service as I then have a clean slate to start from. I am planning the following
Oil Change with new filter
New Air Filter
New Fuel Filter
Is there anything that is advisable to renew on a high miler such as this?
It was drinking diesel like anything the other day too but putting some good quality diesel injector cleaner in the tank has helped loads so they must have been pretty grotty! Is there anything else that is known to effect this engine's thirstyness? It does have a blowing backbox at the moment too so engine isn't going to run completely spot on. What sort of mpg should I expect?
There is hell of a lot of road noise from the rear of the car (Not the exhaust). It almost sounds like the tyres are a bit flat but they're fine. What could this be?
Oh and can you take up the slack in an accelerator cable or do you need to buy a new one? Is it a pig of a job?
Other than that, great little car. My first car was a Polo Classic C
NEWBIE Advice For My Diesel Bargain...
i can only help you on the accelerator cable matey and even then im not 100%. On most vW's there s an adjuster on the cable at the TB end. If you take a look at it its really simple youll see how to figure it out. Just have to pull off a little hairpin type thing from the cable pull it tight and re-apply. Vague guide i know but without seeing it its hard to say!
Yeah, cheers. Had a poke around and sorted the cable ok. Feels better now. There is some acceration hesitation around 2,000 RPM which could still be crap on the injectors. Is it easy to clean them myself by removing them and getting some thinners on them?
I may just chuck another load of cleaner in when the tank's emptier to increase the concentration. I will do the full service first though and see how much difference that makes!
