need advice guys...
im 18, 19 in august. But have been saving hard for a new car. Do i buy a Polo Gti and pay a large price on insurance but enjoy driving at the age i am? Or do i leave it and look at something with a smaller engine and wait to get a bigger engine later on. I don't know what to do but as it stands anything thats a 1.6 other than a mini are crap. The old Polo Gti's are great but im 6 ft 4 and dont think that would suit me too much. your opinion guys please

I bought a Clio 1.2 when i was 18 and insurance for that was 1200 for the year!
Had it till I was 21 then bought my polo and insurance was 500 quid IIRC, now am 23 with 6 yrs no claims and its only 340 for the year
Personally i would go for a smaller engine and keep ur cash for somethin else. Wait a few yrs till its not as expensive to insure!

if you're looking for a cheap fun 1.6 mate, as much as im gunna get slated here i'm gunna say corsa sport! the 1.6 16v is something like 104 as standard, my mate had one until recently . . .

now i know it's not what everyone on here would go for but this one had been decatted, stainless steel from there back and a pipercross filter and it was a little rocket! quicker than a standard gti and for a fraction of the price! with it lowered 50mil too it was like a go cart, took corners like it was on rails! then you can put the change towards a proper gti in a year or so!

mate your more likely to get slated for that than suggesting it in the first place_williams_ wrote:but this one had been decatted, stainless steel from there back and a pipercross filter and it was a little rocket! quicker than a standard gti and for a fraction of the price! )
as for it being gti quick with an exhaust and filter, hmmm, im not having that
ok it may be lighter, but would not ever have the torque the gti could push out from the factory

what cars have you had before mate? yeh a polo gti is kool and fun but i hope you can afford to fill the bastard every two days cause they aint cheap to run. Thats the problem im havng at the minute im so poor i cant fill the thing up lol. Though i must say i do love my baby
If you want something cheap thats fun get a pug205. Used to have right s**t and giggles in that. Itll teach you all about cars too, cos youll constantly be fixing the bloody thing lol. But still did have a lot of fun!

i know what you're saying about the power gains from the mods that had been done, but i know from first hand experience it was stupidly quick for what it was! ok so i'm assuming the gti is as slow as its made out to be, but then when the corsa's sitting with vts' and 106 gti's, the extra 5 brake of the polo cant make that much difference given all that extra weight! but then i could well be wrong . . ! all i know is smiles per pound, the corsa is a great lil car!
do you mean a 6n2 GTi ? not the 9n3 GTi?_williams_ wrote:i know what you're saying about the power gains from the mods that had been done, but i know from first hand experience it was stupidly quick for what it was! ok so i'm assuming the gti is as slow as its made out to be, but then when the corsa's sitting with vts' and 106 gti's, the extra 5 brake of the polo cant make that much difference given all that extra weight! but then i could well be wrong . . ! all i know is smiles per pound, the corsa is a great lil car!

yeah the 6n2 i mean mate, dont get me wrong, what an amazing looking car, if i had to downgrade from my gti i'd deff have one, but in terms of how quick they are, they aint the best!Rich_T wrote:do you mean a 6n2 GTi ? not the 9n3 GTi?_williams_ wrote:i know what you're saying about the power gains from the mods that had been done, but i know from first hand experience it was stupidly quick for what it was! ok so i'm assuming the gti is as slow as its made out to be, but then when the corsa's sitting with vts' and 106 gti's, the extra 5 brake of the polo cant make that much difference given all that extra weight! but then i could well be wrong . . ! all i know is smiles per pound, the corsa is a great lil car!
i had a 6n2, 1.4, wish i'd used my head when i started modding, made so many mistakes but it coulda been an amazin little car!
