Hi,
I'm trying to remove the drum from my wifes 2000 Mk4 rear brakes as I think the cylinder may be leaking (loads of oil inside the wheel etc). Question is do I need to back off the shoes to remove the drum? I don't need to remove the hub nut on this particular model, I've just removed the small phillips screw and wacked the drum with a mallet and it's come loose. It just feels as though it's catching on the shoes.....
Can anyone help? How do I back them off?? Also, anyone have any instructions on shoe/cylinder replacement please?
Many Thanks...
Paul

Re: Rear drum removal - Shoe replacment
Hi mate, yes you do need to back the shoes off, how you do it is when you have removed your wheel, get a torch and look through your wheel bolt hole and you will see a small flat piece of metal will a hole in, its attached to a spring (its the adjuster), its in the 9 o'clock position i think!
All you do is put something in the hole and force it down and your drum should come free (i have an old screwdriver ground to a point at the end so i have the leverage to do it easily)
Hope this helps mate, Andy
