Poor idle and hesitation

Post by cmm-racing »

Hi I am new on the VW scene and I have recently bought a mk4 polo 1.6. It's a really good car however it has developed a hesitation problem which i belive is a common fault, initially it was just hesitating when setting off from stationary. I tried a different throttle body which cured the hesitation but the revs would occassionally stick around 2k and it was difficult to start, so I took the throttle body back and tried another one but this was worse and the hesitation had come back! I then got the ECU re-set and the car drove fine for about 10 miles and then the hesitation and difficulty starting came back worse than ever.
Any advice on what to try next would be a massive help as I can't afford to send it to VW.

Hows business with the air filter, I found out on my last 2 6n's that the breather pipe was bringing oil gunk up and clogging things up especially on the 1.0. So since then I have detached the breather. See if that is your problem as well.

The air filter is reasonably clean. I think i'll try disconnecting the water temp sender next and see if that makes a differance. Any more ideas for me to try? :)

I'm pretty sure its not the timing because once I got the ecu reset then it ran perfect but only for about 5-10 miles before it went back to how it was. :?

timing is done by the ecu but it still has to be spot on and aligined using a timing euipment it can go out after a period of time
