Bet them motors ain't cheap, let us know a price when you've priced them up if there too much mine will have to wait..

Got both of them out this morning. Will be going down to the dealers soon to get new ones and prices. Looks like the part no's have been supersceded too.

I agree that now i know what i am looking for and doing they could be removed and swapped with just the glovebox out.

We've got the same problem, I've seen plenty of others report it, and according to our local VW specialist it's a recognised issue and they've done a ton of these under guarantee - but without that guarantee (or a little goodwill from VW) the labour costs for a garage to do it are pretty high.

A handy little guide on how to pop out the glovebox and do it yourself would be brilliant.

Been to the dealers. The centre flap motor is out of stock with VW until 6 March 09 ! Went to the local SEAT dealer instead and they will have one tomorrow for me - £77-00 lighter though !

The recirc flap motor is a 2 day order @ £84-00 inc. The part number has been revised though to 6Q2 819 453 A. Had abit of a result and found one new on ebay for £24-00 Fingers crossed its here for the weekend

Your the man, would love to see pics if I could attack this with just the glovebox out I'd deffo be up for having a go at it....Any more info you got would be great mate.

Doing some of the pics now.

Glovebox removal. I have marked the places where the screws would be with the red dots. 3 in the top 3 in the bottom. If you have a look at the screws picture i have taken then you are removing 5 of the shorter black ones, and the one longer one which holds the glove box door catch in too.

Bottom of the glovebox. Would be able to see this if you look up into the top of the passenger footwell if that makes sense ! lol


Once you have all the screws out then you can pull the glovebox out and down slightly. Be careful if you have a light in there as this will need disconnecting after it is out.

These are the screws you are looking for in the entire process.



The majority of trim is held in with the shorter black ones, the only exception is the longer black one as it is for the centre top which also keeps the door catch in place.

All the black ones use the same size torx bit.



The gold ones pictured are what holds the 2 motors in place, and the fan blower unit.



You might find a white padded sheet behind the glovebox. I had one and just ripped it out. Will stick it back on with some spray adhesive afterwards.

I had four of these holding the blower unit in place, marked with red dots below. You might however have 5 - it seems to be luck of the draw on the extra one to be honest.



The green circles are 2 zip ties which hold some of the wiring loom in place. These need to be carefully cut to release the loom from the fan. The blue circle indicates where the loom plugs into the blower unit itself. The blue circle to the far left is where the main loom plug will be. This just slides off to the left.

Once all the blower screws are out and the loom is free then the front of the blower can be removed. I used a flat blade screwdriver just to prise the 2 parts away at first. Once apart it came out in my hands no problems.

You should also see a peice of trim to the right of the hole you're working in. This is part of the ducting from the centre vent section to the passenger footwell. It is held in with one black screw, as shown below with the red dot. It is held roughly in place of where you will see it.



Once the screw is removed you can give it a sharp pull down and to the left and it will unclip. This needs to be removed to access the central vent flap motor.

Once this is out you should be left with something like this.



The 2 circled connectors are the main loom which you slid off the blower assembly earlier on. The silver screw hold to the right by the green wiring loom is where the vent screw is removed from

The 2 parts you are looking for are to the far left of this hole and the far right. The one on the left controls the flaps evident in the pictures above. It has been removed in the picture below. When it is in place you will see a gold screw marked with the blue arrow. Remove this. You can then pull the motor and bracket to the left and down ( it is just clipped at the top). Be careful as the electrical connector needs removing once free and i didn't have much slack in the cable.



The actual part is below. Note the original location of the screw and the connector block on opposite sides. The green arrow in the above picture is where the motor spindle centres on when it is refitted.

Gees better wait till the weather warms up just incase I'm without blowers for a couple of days.

Cheers for the pics mate makes it a bit easier although expect a barrage of questions when I start to get my head round this.....That motor in the bottom pic is that the central flap motor or the recirc one??

Thats the recirc motor. I have some more pics of the central fan one and its location etc to add alittle later on.

To be honest if you ordered the parts in advance then it would be 3-4 hours total imo

2 really helpful posts now, would be more useful if you enlightened us to how ????

Even the 'official' instructions from VAG say to remove the blower front but if you have a more efficient and better way of doing it please share
