MK5 1.4S Polo + Updates =)

Post by J25LY »

Hi everyone,

i'm an newbie here, just brought my first car at christmas an 2000 VW polo 1.4s (60bhp) metallic blue 5dr. For now i have just fitted sony MEX-BT 3600 system but just got a couple of questions for everyone to answer!!! okay here goes the questions:

1st: alloys: firstly the car has got the original vw 13" hub caps on but i wanna put some 15" alloys onto the car i found two sets of alloys on ebay with tyres but i'm not sure if they will fit on the car and which one would suit the car ???? and would these alloys rub against the arches of the car depending on the amount of people in the car ???

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0295902811

or

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0327726770

2nd: front exterior: the car didn't come with the front fog lights but i'm looking to order the whole fog light set from veedubmachine (fog light grill set + fog lights), would i need anymore additional wiring for the fog lights or are the wires already in place ??? plus im gotta order the GTI honeycomb grill as well to go with the fog lights but would it match the bottom grill underneath the number plate ???

3rd: declaring mods: i know that i have to declare the alloys on the insurance but would any of the front exterior changes have to declared as well ???

many thanks

James =)

Do not buy any of them alloys for that poor polo, get yourself on dubmeister mate, they'll set you right!

and no you wont scrub at all at standard height, its like a tonker truck!!

you will need the double fog switch that replaces the orignal one

in theory YES you have to declare anything that you change on the car even door pins as sad it sounds, but stupid thing like that then i wouldnt bother, my insurance allows me to do cosmetic mods for free but one that alters peformance will increase the premium mate

Welcome to the site mate. James has pretty much covered everything there for you! I agree with those wheels, they're awful for the Polo!

Fogs are just plug in after the switch. For the grill try eBay, forums and the VW dealers.

£300 is the limit for RXIIs mate, so if they're not mint with decent tyres argue them down!

Yeah the wireing for the fogs are near the front grills clipped in somewhere, there the most obvious clips!

G60 steels
ATS Cups
Ronal Turbos
Cups (RH or Artec)
Lenso BSX or others
Ronal LSs
BBS RAs
Audi Pepperpots with adaptors, in fact alot of audi stock wheels are decent

Any of those are decent enough, all common though. The mark 2 golf shares the same fitment as the Polo, so some retro wheels from that side of the scene are making there way over, which are all great wheels. So have a browse on Edition38 for some wild cards.

nice one tim but there not really my type of alloys, more into the bbs's such as the RX II, RC, RX and RK but i'll doubt finding the right size to put onto the polo

Hey James,

All looks sweet man. Mines just hit 90 so 60 is nothing, you've got plenty of road left.

I want BBS alloys for mine too but think I'm going to save the extra and get 16" for the stand out. I was looking at the same Sony stereo as you, it's wicked at the price but what's the white light about behind the volume wheel. Can it be dimmed at all? Think that would annoy me driving in the dark. How do you find it?

Cheers Duke,

Yeah i know but it is a milestone!

16" bbs do look good but its rare to find + depends on what type you want as well!! I saw a few sets on ebay a couple of months ago!
Yeah the sony stereo pretty good with all the features you get with it, i don't think you could dim the white light really but it doesn't stand out too much to put you off your driving!

Also i think there is a updated model of the stereo @ halfrauds (halfords) going for about £140ish the model is BT3700/3800, i think i have seen it @ the store and probably a updated model of the one that currently have!
