If you work at the dealers and there is a better way of doing this then please let us know.

All of the dealers around here are useless obviously, prove them there is a good one out there and at least give us a clue ?? :?:

Had resorted to counting teeth, wasn't far off, but was still stuck on the open and closed positioning of the motor.

What are these basic settings that you speak of ? I have access to the vag-com stuff, do you need to run the basic setting option before installing the motor or afterwards ? I'm assuming thisis the settings cycle on the HVAC options 001 and 002 to finalise position of the motor and the teeth ?

Spot on fella. I have come up with a fool proof (famous last words) plan now. I'll run the motors connected to the loom but not the flaps through the test cycle on vag-com. It runs them from 0 to 255, representing closed to full open on their test cycle. They end up back at closed again so i now then that the motors are in the fully close position. Install them with the flaps and gears in the closed position then run the test cycle again to confirm operation in place. Long winded and overkill i know but i think it ensures success :)

It sounds like the VAG stuff is similar to the vag-com system for diag and testing too.

Yorks, in the fist two posts you tell us how smart you are that you can change the motor by just taking the glove box out in 40 minutes WITHOUT telling us HOW. That's two useless posts   . In the third post you tell us you work for the stealership    . That is definately NOT a useful post as you still have not given us a step by step (with pictures) as to have YOU really do this change.

These forums are ment for members to help each other -- like lordnikon is doing (very commendable). So far, you have contributed to 3 sm***ss comments. So get yourself into higher regards and show us how it can be done by us mere mortals.

I sense I am saying what others wish to say but are biting their tongue.

So do you need vag.com or similar or will counting the teeth give the same outcome..... Only am really confused now thought it was a take one otor out fit other motor back in job, didn't realise there was more technical issues to get this right.

Where in Yorkshire are you??

It turns out you dont need vag-com, but you SHOULD run the basic settings test on the motors once fitted.

Upon closer inspection the motor gears have 2 teeth that are joined with blocks. These mate to a similar (albeit the other way around) layout on the gears that control the flaps. These obviously have to match for the motors to install and be positioned correctly. Seems that VW did use a brain cell in the end then

I have been reliably informed that this alone is enough to guarantee a successful installation, but it is recommended that the motors are tested once installed and any subsequent error codes cleared.

Finally a solution to this annoying problem.

However Yorks do you know if those parts have been revised because I would be pissed if I change them then a months later the problem comes back.

Lordnikon have you got the part number for “The centre flap motor” please?

I've installed it in the car today, and binned the old one ! Will hook out the paperwork and see if its on there tomorrow for you :)

Both parts have been revised, although they look identical on the outside apparently the motors and internal wiring in the modules have been upgraded.
