Rear Washer

Post by vondoogle »

Hi Guys,

New member here, so hi everyone. My daughter is now the owner of a 2000 1.4 16v Polo and I have the job of making sure everything is up to scratch  So I have changed the cam belt, tensioners and water pump, the main tensioner had broken apart and could of only been days away from disaster.

Any way one of the problems is the rear washer, I have read through a number of posts and it seems like a common problem, I have checked the normal things where it goes but I do have a question, when I press the washer in by the steering wheel I do not hear the water pump but the rear washer wipe works, now when I use the front washer the pump works and the jet sprays out water, so any ideas?

Another issue I have which may have been related in a way, is the luggage compartment light, I have checked it has a 12 feed which it does, but it doesn't get a ground when the boot opens, am I right in thinking that the boot latch holds a relay which is probably broken here, looks like it had a soaking some time in the past?

Hi, welcome.

Yeah I sounds like the switch in the boot lock has got wet and corroded. Mines done the same, going to replace it soon hopefully. Also my rear wiper did the same. Front worked but rear wasn't spraying. Found the hose had become disconnected behind the rear passenger seat above the wheel arch. Maybe worth a check.

Cheers for the reply, I will look for the suspect hose as soon as things warm up, I checked the boot lock and it has signs of corrosion so I guess this is why the luggage compartment light doesn't work. I will get a replacement from VW. It's funny I had to change one of these on my Audi because I got a bit heavy handed when shutting the boot down.......... at least it's a simple job to do.
