GTI insurance?

Post by avfcnutter »

I posted a while back asking who was the youngest GTI owner and how much there insurance was, a few 18 year olds, like myself, replied, saying they pay around £1500 for their gti insurance, ive had a few quotes now, the cheapest ive managed is £3700, thats on my dads policy, with me as a main driver, i live in a low risk area as well :S can someone help please? What company's are you guys with?

I simply could not get insured on the GTI for reasonable money until I was 19...

Even then, because I was not using the car very much... and was in effect the second driver... I was a nameed driver on my old mans policy for a year.... got me a small discount this year when I took out a full policy in my own name,....

Theres no easy way of doing it... but its got a GTI badge on it so its going to cost you!

A 1.6 8V 6N would be a LOT easier to insure! And... although less powerful its still a well equiped car!

Try Bell insurance mate they're really good. They were offering around half the price to most other competitors.

As far as I am aware you can only use NCB on one car at a time....

So if your dad is insured on another car and has claimed all of those years NCB on that policy.... IMHO he cant use them on your polo policy...

He might have to split his NCB between the two cars.....

Insurance... the biggest scam!

I have just insured my GTI and think that I have got a bargain! My own policy with my mum as a named driver - £724. That is only third party but I'm happy :) I'm only 19 and was really surprised at the amount! If I wanted fully comp it would have been £1100 or so. Didn't think that was bad either.
That's through Egg Car insurance. Pretty good price and makes my life as student just that much easier lol.

You may be able to answer 1 of 2 questions for me then mate,
Got a quote with them which I liked but, after 35 mins on the phone just hung up.
So either, my question to them was going to be, do they allow the basic modifications? Whats the extra like on them?
And, if you cant answer, do you have a number for them on all your documentation? See If I can get through to them again.

I just check for you and my excess is £100 for me and £100 for my mum.
It also states:
If there are any young or inexperienced* drivers allowed to drive under the policy, the following excesses will apply whilst they are in charge of your vehicle. These excesses are included in the above information.
Drivers aged 17 - 20 = £400
Drivers aged 21 - 24 = £250
Drivers aged 25 or over who are inexperienced* = £200
* An inexperienced driver is a person who either has a provisional licence or has held a full driving licence less than 1 year if issued in the UK or less than 2 years if issued elsewhere.

And I dont think that they allow any modifications of any sort. And I dont have a number as I only bought the insurance earlier today. Hope that helps.
