advice needed plz on my swerving car

hi can u help plz .... i have a P reg polo and it doesnt seem to have much road holding.. the back end swerves badly causing me to have to slow down especially when wet or at speed is quite scary . someone said its becoz im am used to driving bigger cars ie focus estate passats, peugeot 406 but it just doesnt feel safe to me :? .... mot is due in may is this going to be an expensive fault to put right ....... any info gratefully recieved thatnks :)

How's the tyre tread? and what type tyres are they?

Correct tyre pressures?

Do you need yoru tracking/tyres re-aligned? That isn't too costly, should cost £30 absolute maximum.

thanks for ur reply's......rear near side is a firestone radial ...rear offside is a sportiv x ...... tyre pressure as book and tread is good ..... i will try getting the tracking done too

it is remmended that you keeep the tyre treads the same design on axle

you can have yoko on front 2 and goodyear on rear but never mix match them
thats prob your prob mate

its coz 1 will grip more or flex more than the other and will cause probs and might end up damaging you set-up of the car

thats why i have all the same make on each corner and it does make a difference

thank i will do that to see if it make a difference ..... got to get a new front exhaust pipe first so it will have to wait ty again jane :)

I'd go with what has been said already, also get the rear axle bushes checked for excessive wear (MOT failure) & make sure you get the wheel alignment checked on a decent 4 wheel alignment machine to make sure the whole car is running straight & true (worth the money!)
