Fitting a GTI front splitter...

Post by r_penny23 »

Hi all,
Finally got myself a GTI splitter and have just worked that im as good as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest in fitted the thing :? I realise it is clipped on some how but dont want to totally break it when I remove it, as this is what normally happens when i get frustrated

Has anyone done this and give me any advice?

A mate and I fitted mine a couple of weeks back, and to be honest it really is a pain in the arse.

First off its much easier if the front of the car is in the air. We put mine on service ramps, but you could put it on axle-stands or whatever. Having that bit more headroom makes it a lot simpler to work.

Then all we did was starting at one end, just opening the metal retaining clips up and pushing the original splitter out with a screwdriver. This is where its easier to have two people, as whilst one is pushing the clips out, the other can gently start pulling the splitter.

Once you've got the first few clips off it gets easier and easier, it just needs some patience. As long as you open the metal clips up, yoiu shouldnt break it.

try the link! http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... php?t=3941

if u read down further, martyn says that it can't be delivered so would have to be collected! depending on where u r, u could go get it! however, if u can't, u can dream about how much money u could of kept buying it throught VAG parts!

My local vdub dealer quoted £44 including vat which is a bit steep, but its the only way if you cant make it up to VAG :( . There are sometimes some on ebay but like alot of the stuff on there price dosnt include delivery as I found out from one guy who after postage wanted around £50 for a pre-owned (what a joke). Good look on your hunt 8)

splitter

When the splitter is clipped in it isnt going anywhere! when youre fitting it you almost have to stretch it round, theres about 20 clips start at one end and work your way around making sure its in tight!
it is a nightmere if you car is low tho!

What's the whole deal with gti splitters? Are they bigger than the standard ones that come on the car?

the normal splitter just sorta, dies out, swoops under the car, wheareas the gti one comes down further, therefore making the front look lower! a very worthwhile mod if ya want it to look smart at the front, i much prefer the look of a mk5 with it!
