Sound System

Post by stuart1903 »

A mate gave me a couple of 8'' subs, they're 200w. Is it relatively easy to make a bass box? Or where can I get a decent one for a cheap price. Also, I'm wanting to install 6x9s in the parcel shelf, would I run these off an amp, or would powering them through the headunit OK?

Finally how big an amp do i need?

i like my 6*9s but others will tell u different.
personal preferance. run them from a separate amp if u have the cash. better sound quality

look into upgrading the door speakers if u haven't already and to possibly fitting a second set of 6.5"s. and then you have a sick setup. :D

depends on the speakers as to the size of the amp. have you already bought these 6X9s?

Haven't bought anything other than these 200w Subs, looking to install them cheaply as possible and also get 6x9s in as cheap as possible as well.

Has anybody built a sub-box before?

Ah clean slate, in that case DON't get the 6X9s, get some 6.5 conponents instead. What's your budget all in?

Right, 6x9s arrived today. Got them on the cheap so just bought them. There 240w 4 way 6 x 9s. Also, 500w 2 channel amp arrived today aswell.

I'm planning on running the 2 x 200w subs of the amp and the 6 x 9s getting power from the head unit.

I'm wanting to mount the 6 x 9s in the parcel shelf, and make little brackets in the boot to mount the 8'' subs.

Also, my Juice wiring kit should be following soon, should it be good enough to wire the entire system?

u mean mount the subs freely? so they wont be in a box?

as far as im aware the subs need a box in order to get the bass sound from the sub.

Box is expensive. I'm not going to just chuck them in the boot, I fancied just putting them in little brackets at the back two corners of my boot, I think a box gives you better quality but It should be ok if there not in a box i think for just now.

Boxes arn't that expensive, here's one on ebay thats under £20 delivered.

Do it once, do it right! No point putting subs in if they're not fitted correctly. You'd only be dissappointed in the quality of both the sound & the look!

I have to agree with Torq if your on the job do it properly.
If you think the box may look a bit tatty get some mdf and make a fitting for the sub & amp.
You can make anything look tidy with the right amount of time and effort.
