Mk 4 Golf Shift Knob Help

Post by Naz »

Hi All!

im trying to source a MK4 golf gear knob with gaitor to mod into my 6n- I have been looking at the guides but the knob described in the guide is diff to the one im looking at.

SOme have a chrome ring on the gaitor- but as you all are aware the Polo has an elasticated base- My question is can you remove the plastic+Chrome from the gear knob to fit- In the PDF guide he removes the plastic trim but there was no chrome ring.

I was looking at this item on the bay- anyone know if it will fit ok and if can remove the ring cheers.

I would assume so that the ring would be removeable, however i'm not certain. Aren't the 6N2 and Golf Mk4/Bora gearsticks the same anyway? Surely it would be easier to find one without the chrome as it wouldn't fit the 6N anyway :|

the part number is on the ebay link but differs to the one in the pdf guide on this forum- only the last 4 digits- the on othe guide is AE74.

i know theres a few differneces for the golf one.

i prefer the look of the golf shift knob compared to the Polo gti one

Yeah I mean I don't think it would be that hard to fit it even if it didn't come off the chrome trim, either slice and glue it on or try and work around the chrome and get that to fit the raised lip on the 6N center console. I'd be tempted to search for someone breaking a Mk4 golf, might come with a tad bit of wear but at the end of the day it'll wear anyway. Why pay £80+ when you can pay £30ish or less for the equivelent which needs a good leather polish and clean?
