Stage 3 .... what turbo ? what power ?

Post by more-bhp »

Ok .... so I look at proper Stage 3 with a nice Garret turbo....

Plenty of you guys will surely head to Stage 3 .... but what will you want from it ???

Whatever you do with the K03s you are going to be stuck at realistic max of 230-240 ?? at k03s breaking 1.5bar ...

I am looking at sorting the next stage but cannot decide the best route... the best level of power... to go for...

GT2X .. bolt on.. 3" MAF. TT injectors.. max capable 290bhp..but more like 260-270...
GT28RS... bolt on...3" MAF. Bigger than TT injectors... capable 350bhp
GT2871R.. bolt on...3" MAF. Even bigger injectors... Ball Bearing ... upto 400bhp..
GT30... 400+ bhp

looking at dyno runs it would seem the GT28RS is the turbo of choice at it spools quite quick and makes good power across a good power band... not just top ended like the next one up..it could be run at just over 300bhp so as not to break the engine..it would only need to run 0.7-0.8 bar boost...

The prices of the turbos are almost identical except the GT2x that is cheaper.. so thats not really a deciding factor..

Just would like everyone's ideas please - as this is my next project...I will then have a full stage 3 turbo kit available ....

Thanks J

I looked briefly at awsome gti stage 3 kit they do.....seems good but a bit to much money for me i think i will stay where i am at stage 2.

I will only be convinced by all this stage 3 stuff when i take a ride in one...i would really like to see how they put the power to the tarmac.

I have been in very powerful front wheel drive hot hatches before and they cant put it down no matter what they did.

Where is the limit so to speak....?

I really really hope that it is a different story for the polos though...i really do.

Come and try our Ford Focus RS running Turbo Technics Hybrid T28...with our software..running 350hp... front wheel drive with LSD as standard.... is Fookin FAST ;-)

Sure it spins wheels... but even when struggling for traction it anialates the POLO.... like the POLO is standing still...

Thats why I, personally, need more.. much more...

Yeah i know exactly what you are saying mate and i could not agree more with the "i need more " statement because dont get me wrong i would love it :D

I would love to see it done and then maybe taken out in it to see and feel it.

Can i ask if your polo is your daily driver? or is it a little project on the side??

I use my Polo every single day... it goes to Tesco, takes the kids to school every morning, picks them up at 3:15, takes me to work, takes the family window shopping at the weekend... any excuse for me to drive it...

The A4 2.5tdi Cabriolet stays at home... too slow for me... unless of course we have an unusually sunny day...

Lots of peeps now have most of the hardware in place to run a big turbo. Most of us dont have the clutch or LSD yet that is why I propose the first stage 3 will run very sensible levels... and you just get reprogrammed if you want more later on.

What would be fun to do is fit the GT28RS to an almost standard Polo - it can be done - and running almost standard boost would make 250+ bhp... all fully fitted with suitable injectors and programming about £2000, £2350 prob for modded cars because there are some extra goodies worth adding for max turbo efficiency... running a nice 300bhp... with clutch and dif done... 330+ would be enough.

Now I just need some cash to get the GT28RS ordered.... spent too much money lately.... wife is getting jealous of the car ... lol

I dont know anything about running a business, but the place that deals APR in Scotland has set up something with the bank where customers can pay off their goods in 12 months installments (INTEREST FREE). Very tempting instead of needing to fork out a lump sum at once :D

awesome do this too kenny,

i want the apr stage 3 setup for mine, iv been in one in a mk4 golf and it scared the life out of me, it wiped the floor with a scoob 22b, absolutely killed it everywhere and stayed well in front up to bannable figures, its by far the quickest thing iv been in, i came out shaking

diff is a necessity though as is the clutch, thus being why ill be uprating my diff and clutch first, then thats a big chunk of expense gone, then just the turbo conversion to be done later on

If i was goin down that route (BT) then i would be looking at the GT2X, seems a nice figure 260-270, keeping thing nice and safe for the internals, and still driveable. If i went 300+ i would be writing up a will at the same time!!!!

the gt2x eliminator is a rap turbo for the engine, having been in the same mk4 with this fitted, power delivery with it was nothing then at 4k everything, its not progressive and only spools late

gt 28rs all the way,

Yep GT28RS is the favourite... thing is kenny.. you can run this at well less than 300... and it is future proof....

You see I look at supplying kit for you so you get stronger maps when you need them..or you switch between "daily driver" and "race"... you can update by email ;-) I can already do this but like everything I do I look at making it cheaper for the customer... before being properly released....

More on this later....
