Re setting the air bag light

Post by CymruPolo »

I had my car serviced at the weekend and at the same time had some new full beam bulbs put in. The guy who was doing my service managed to do it without taking the bumper off, but I believe the battery was disconnected in order to make room to change the bulbs.

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere on here ages ago that if you disconnect the battery the air bag light comes on and I also remember someone saying how to re set it so it goes off. It's not a big problem 'cos he said he'll get a laptop with VAG COM to clear it, but I was just wondering if there's any other way to do it? As I'm almost certain the thread I saw mentioned there was, then again I may be wrong :|

Airbag light should not activate when the battery is removed. It has to be done via vag-com, but scanning the airbag controller can DESTROY IT!

For some reason, there is a bug in the airbag controllers on VWs from 2000-02 that will render the controller useless if its scanned and the bug activates.

So ye, vag-com is the way, but be careful!

Ok, thanks Alex. The guy who did the service for me works for VW, so it should be ok. I'll mention what you said to him though :)

Another option is to unplug your battery for an hour, then reconnect to see if it's still there.

My climate control was making a strange noise this morning. Kind of like the motor (assuming there is one?) inside it was really loud, it wasn't there on the way home though. I bloody hate random problems.
