A few Q's on the GTI!

Post by Gillen »

Hi,

I've got a few questions regarding the 9N3 Polo GTI and i'm hoping they'll all be answered here! :)

I'm currently without a car, i've just sold my corsa, and am seriously condsidering a Polo GTI.

I'm wondering how expensive/easy is it to achieve somewhere in the region of 200-230bhp and what torque would that get me? I've seen tuners quoting 200bhp from just a remap but 50bhp from just a remap seems a bit far-fetched? Also which reputable tuners are located in the Midlands? Closer to Nottingham the better! If i were to be running the power above, how reliable would the car be and would i need to be looking at a new clutch?

The final question for now is, on the straights, how does a remapped GTI hold up against a standard Mini Cooper S, the supercharged version. Reason i ask is that this is my other option, but not a fan of the poor MPG.

Thanks!

With a remap (stage one) your gonna get 190-195 realistically! Which will beat a standard Mini Cooper S, not the JCW tho. But not far off it.

Then spend a couple of grand on FMIC, exhaust, Induction and get a stage 2 remap and your gonna have a flee machine 230 bhp region in a 1.1T lump is lots and lots of fun!

Hmmm, £2,000 seems quite alot for 230bhp! As i'd probably want to be upgrading breaks/suspension aswell. With the MCS it seems i can get 220bhp for <£1,000...

But i prefer the interior and exterior of the GTI, but prefer the sound of the s'charger on the MCS plus it's handling/6th gear/cruise control!

Such a hard decision, i think the build quality is better on the GTI too!

Suppose you dont need to spend 2K, depends what you go for in the exhaust market and the FMIC isnt a must have for stage 2, just recommend. I just love my we polo now i have my remap sorted, goes like stink!! Would p*** all over a JCW, just looking for a WRX and some frickin dry weather

I think the main thing that attracts me to the GTI is that it's quite rare? I personally have never seen one around where i live!

Decisions decisions!

I'm yet to test drive a GTI, so we'll see how that goes first! :D But i can't see me not liking it.

I want a white one though but they always come up a little out of my budget :(

out of your two options mate i'd go GTi, i test drove a mini cooper s before going for the gti, it felt sluggish, nowhere near as responsive as the turbo. aswell as this the seat position in the mini really put me off, seems as though you're sitting on the floor, the windscreen seemed to be right in front of my face and way too upright if you know what i mean! and the same goes for a cooper that i've driven, just altogether a horrible car to be in/drive in my opinion!

so obviously i went for the polo, after a stage 1 remap, it passes 182's, type r's, even sits with 225 audi s3's which i was very suprised at! (thought the s3 was not running properly/not trying until i came up against another at the lights!) and being such a rare car the look on these drivers faces is priceless! i'd hate to think what car's you'd be suprising with a tidy exhaust, some induction and a stage 2 remap :|

but anyway, what i guess i'm trying to say is . . . get a GTi! 8)

edit: forgot to say, there's minis all over the place in swansea, theyr lile clit's! but i've had the gti since august and i've only ever seen one other, aint seen it since either! 8)

I've drove a mini... Personally the GTI is the way to go imo.

Polo Gti is all bolted together well, quite discreet, you dont see loads and loads on the road.
Stage1 on a standard car will get you grinning from ear to ear to begin with.... is nice a quick like said above.
But if you end up completely catching the bug for it, you can easily go futher as got LOADS of tuning potential after futher modification to that nice 1.8t

..... Get one!!

Get a gti mate!!

Only down side is they handle s*** as standard!

Once this is sorted there great....like the others say......mini are horrible in my opinion and far far to commen....im from Leicester and i have never truthfully seen another gti here and its a quite a big city. Which is good. You do get mistaken for a golf which pi***s you off lol besides that.....perfect.

If you get one in Nottingham your probably going to be the one closest to me :D
