You don't need to remove it to clean it. You can if you want, but that's up to you.

To clean it without removal:

Purchase some carb cleaner from halfords.
Remove your air box
Spray some cleaner on a rag and wipe the throttle body until visably clean.
Get some to start the engine up and rev it up to around 4-5k, pulsing the pedal. As the butterfly flap opens spray the carb cleaner continuously into the TB. Use around a quarter to third of the can.
Keeping the car running, take it for a good spin after to burn off excess cleaner.

Remove the breather hose as this is what leaks the oil into the throttle body, and attach a breather filter which you can buy from halfords. If you leave the breather hose connected all your hard work will go down the drain as the throttle body will go all black again with dirty oil in a matter of days!!!

Just a breather filter. You need the specific size though, I'm not sure what it is on yours, it's 25mm on the GTi though,

Can someone tell me exactly what this breather filter does? I have similar problem with Oil in the air cleaner and the source of this is the breather pipe.
