S reg 1.9D polo revving problem

Hi guys i have been running a 1.9D polo for a few years and recently it has started to rev on its own accord usually when accelerating/deaccelerating. It usually over revs by about 200-500rpm and sometimes when i lift off at idle. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced any problems like this?
