Poor Fuel Economy

Post by Brad. »

I've got a 1.4 8v polo. :)
I know it's not gonna be great on the motorway, but cruising at about 70-80mph going from Guildford to Gatwick and back.
Last night it used the best part of half a tank. Makes me think theres something wrong.

It has got an error that reoccuring - Misfiring i think. Would that play a big part or is it just down to the driving?

Had the heating on to get the car warm, then it was all the way round to cold with just the fan on the window on '1' to keep it clear...
It was mostly 5th gear, no braking just cruising at motorway speeds.
Thats what i don't get :/

Sounds like a possible dodgy lambda sensor, overfuelling, or your temperature sensor is foobarred.

Air con in the polos will make very little difference to the cars economy - its just a power zapper :P
