9N Suspension Bushes Corroding

Post by GR33NIE »

My GT TDI went in for an MOT a couple of weeks back, went through fine apart from a couple of advisories...One of them being that the front suspension bushes are apparently corroding? :o Is this a common fault on any of the 9N's?

It won't be covered under warranty, sounds like parts are cheap, not so sure on labour though *cries* Think ill get it done @ a local VW Specialist and not a main Stealership :D

If its the console bushes then they are a common fault. Replace them with Seat cupra solid bushes, less than a tenner from Seat. I will find you the part number :D

Just one thing, I'd have thought that your MOT official written advisory would be for torn/cracked bush rubber insert not "corroded" - the outcome is the same as they need changed, but I'm just adding this so that others do not now start thinking that corrosion is a problem with these bushes. On the other hand, they could have made a mess of describing the condition of the ARB - ie it is corroded and has cracked the plastic end-stops - what age is your car?

The dealer doesn't have the best reputation round here so that wouldn't surprise me, the cars a 55 plate so 4yrs old this Sept...

I would think that as your car is a "55" plate then it would have the newer ARB already fitted when it was built, but there does seem to be a bit much discussion going on on the Fabia/Polo/Ibiza forums about newer cars still having a problem, maybe a different problem than originally, with ARBs corroding, I'd like to know what that next problem is as I got the ARB on my wife's "52" plate Polo replaced a few years ago and thought that that would be the end of that problem!
