Right, dealer just called me up to tell me that they were right and the fault that is making my engine management light go on is a faulty brake light switch. I still don't think is, as it goes on when were sitting in traffic and the engine is getting hot, but we'll see. The cost for this, £77. That's for a part that I could get from Eurocarparts.com for £4.84. Ok, they may have done a diagnostic check - but I shouldn't imagine that it'll be any different than the initial one they did for free, which involved plugging a computer into the car and reading off what was wrong. So basically, the labour for fitting the switch came to £72!
Added to all this, they treat me like I'm some sort of idiot. I may only be 18, but the fact that I took my car to them surely means that I can pay the same as anybody else? I'm sure I look after my car better than the people they suck up to, so am more likely to spend money there?
Drives me insane, because I would prefer that my car was looked after by the official dealers, but I don't understand why I should endure poor and expensive service? The mechanic that looks after our other, older cars doesn't rob me of hard earned cash and is always on the end of the phone if I need advice - only problem is he wont stamp the book, so seems like I'm stuck.
Sorry to go off on one, but I guess we're all in the same boat with relatively new cars.

I hate VW dealers. The two of them closest to me treat me like they couldnt give a damn, and I'm fairly sure its because I'm only 19.
I know if I was 45 and walked into a dealership they would be all over me like a rash. They seem to forget the fact that the younger people today will be the ones they want to buy their more expensive vehicles in the future. With the VW customer service experience I've had, I'd be very reluctant to spend more money on them, which is a shame as the products they sell are great.

Dealers treat you the same even when you forty 
If you want to buy a fleet of cars they may then be intersted. I believe the one car owner is small fry to them and they do not seem to care if they get your business or not. Having just been offered a pittance for my 99 Polo CL against a GTI, I then visited a local independant dealer and ended up getting over a grand more than the dealer offered and with a little more cash ended a very nice GTI
