Your looking easily £1000+ for a good job I think. Possibly a lot more.

That's for teh same colour. If you wanted a respray in a different coulor expect to pay much much more. But £1200+ is a good bench mark for a decent job.

haha, no one for 200 quid is going to put their heart into the project, it'll be a dire finish. and a spray gun and garage doesnt equal a perfect finish. proper paint will cost almost that.

propper paint, from a propper paint shop?! i definately know people who have got cars done for near £200 rather than £2000- that would be so much more than what a mk4 is even worth! if you can do it yourself then of course you are going to put your heart into it, if someone can get that done for that then fair play i say, not remark something stupid like you need to be in the right room! its not all about buy-off-the-shelf mods, do it yourself!

Agreed, some people do it for the love, a guy I know spent £80 on gloss paint and a complete respray for a guy who loves doing it for £100 on an escort and the job is brilliant. Its down to the complexity of the job too, like gloss paint and matte is easy to work with, but pearlescent paint is more of a pain to blend etc... A spray gun and garage is all you need, no wind and dust is the ideal condition.

Prepping for painting is the most difficult. You can have the best sprayer in the world, if the prep is wrong it will turn out crap. Do not go cheap if your wanting a nice fresh lick of paint!

Gloss i should imagine, its about £50 a litre down my local paint shop, that comes with catalyst and laquer i think aswel. expect to pay alot less than £1000 for it, thats a complete joke!

Sorry to seem thick, but you've lost me with this post!

You say you want a respray in the same colour, then asked whats cheaper gloss, metallic etc? A same colour respray would say to me that you are wanting to stay the original colour & save having to do door shuts etc etc. If thats the case, you only can use a automotive spray paint to get a colour match, not household gloss or similar.

jordan eff wrote:well thats all well and good but most of the time £200 wont even pay for half of our materials, our most recent respray a porsch 911 cost us £425 for paint alone, then we buy 4 litres of scratch resistant lacquer for £200 then the price of pads and primer on top so the saying you get what you pay for coms into mind
That's exactly what I was getting at, I was not saying that I'd rather pay someone else to do things for me. I'm the last person for that, I hate drive in, drive out jobs.

I'm just saying that your unstating the skill of spraying.

It's not something anybody can just pick up and do after reading threads on the net. It takes time and practice, you've got to know how each paint behaves, what to do if something doesn't go right etc etc. But again, not discouraging anyone who wants to try by any means!

Just don't expect someone to take £200 for a perfect on job, unless they're a friend or don't care for money. As it would cost you that in materials.
