cam belt price

Post by Joe_Mk5 »

hey guys
my car is well overdue to having a cambelt change and is on 75k at the moment and thats with the original belt!
ive been quoated £130 to have the cambelt and tensionsers changed including parts and labour
or £77 for just labour if i supply my own parts
they also quoted £220 for cam belt tensioners and water pump inc parts.
im not sure which would be better,
does anyone know where i could find these parts cheap and if you happen to have a part code it would be greatly appreciated!
and would you consider this a fair price?

thanks everyone!

yeh i got quoted i think £180-190 for the parts and mine doing. Parts came to around £80 i think. Just going to get parts and do it myself now though.

i say myself, i mean make my dad a cup of tea and let him do it

£150 parts included is good. go with it. AS said previously the parts themselves shouldn't exceed £80, may even be alot less.

I got away with paying £60 for the belt and got the pump changed for free at the same time. As went 3 days after buying the car

there was me thinking i got away with 150 being good ;)
im still happy with the price though!
all got done today, dropped it off at 5 am! thats right 5 am! because it was done before the garage opened, and was back with me at 7
cambelt, tensioners and waterpump all changed, new coolant and my gearbox oil topped up for 150 :)

now that all the possbile problems with the car have gone wrong and been fixed, i think its time to get on with making it look a little nicer!
