Wining noise

Post by vw_joe »

I have a wining noise. It can be heard loudest on deceleration. Am i right in thinking this is the alternator making the noise? :(

I started it up this morning and give the engine a few blips and it sounds like it is coming from the alternator...

Took it for a drive earlier and it actually does possibly sound like it could be from the gearbox. Bearings maybe? Anyone got any ideas to rectify the problem? New bearings or new box?

It is most likely to be your main pinion bearing mate. Had a very similar problem, check my thread out http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 19&t=40850

Have a read and see if this helps, i got a recon gear box for £300.
