How to Change a front indicator light.

Post by jackb »

My front passenger side indicator bulb has gone on my 2003 1.2 Polo.

£2 for the bulb, but VW quoted me £30 to fit it. Can anyone help me? Is it easy to change or should I fork out for the garage to do it?

Thanks.

Easy enough to do it yourself. They only charge that much cause of labour costs. Should be a plug connection on the back of the indicator unit, if it is similar to the 6n, you just twist and pull then take old bulb out, put new one in. Then test it after, unlike what i did. But if it is not similar to 6n i dont have a clue. Hope this gives you some help though.

One thing here, if I were you I'd check the condition of all four bulbs as the amber coating gets burnt and falls off and then you start showing white light when its meant to be orange. As far as I can remember, especially on the petrol engined cars, this job is very easy - I've done it and check the bulbs before each MOT but have forgotten exactly what is involved. BTW, to change the rear ones you pull out the small fabric flap with the holes in it and unscrew a large plastic nut that is retained to teh car with a rubber hanyard - then pull/force/shout at the cluster to remove it from the outside of the car.
