hi,
new to the site and i am about to collect a P reg 1.4 cl from my parents, however, from what i remember the sound system is very basic; no rear speakers, no cd just radio cassette, door speakers a bit 'tinny' so i would like to upgrade it, nothing flash, im not interested in sub woofers etc, i do have a spare pair of 6x9's, does the polo have rear speaker wires fitted ready or am i going to end up running cable from the headset?
as for the headset can a boot mounted cd changer be connected to it easily or is it a case of special adapters needed? if so i might as well buy a cd player, maybe one with usb socket etc..
any advice on front speakers?
cheers,
Tali (phil)
rear speakers etc...

Re: rear speakers etc...
Rear speakers depends on what model of car you have. Some will have them, so don't have the option. Running cable isn't really a bother though, plus if you want decent quality cabling you'll have to run it anyway!
The for fronts I'd advise looking at 6.5 components. With speakers you generally get what you pay for, so the most you can afford the best really. Can't go wrong with Alpine, Rainbow, RE, Pioneer etc.

Why would anyone get 6x9s? They give s**t audio quality, and are a total waste of money. Just upgrade the current ones.

cheers,
the car is a 1.4 cl P reg..
the front speakers in the doors dont seem to do much and the general sound is lacking bass even with it turned on full.
the 6x9's i have are spares just lying around, but i've always found 6x9's can vary quite a bit but are generally a cheap upgrade from standard speakers. good point about the cable though......luckily i have several metres of quality cable spare too.....

Standard speakers are generally pretty naff. Especially on cars nearing 10 years old +.taliban wrote: the front speakers in the doors dont seem to do much and the general sound is lacking bass even with it turned on full.
Get some components for the front, sorting out the treble and mids, and a sub for the back to sort out the bass. Good times
Re: rear speakers etc...
ok, so if i get some replacement 6.5 for the doors, whats the maximum depth?

I'm not sure on the 6N sorry mate. As i own a 6n2. I would imagine around 80mm? Pure estimate though.
