Polo Spare Keys

Just bought a 1 litre Polo as my first car, few little things that need sorting, but I'm enjoying doing them to be honest.

However.
I only have one set of keys, and they're a weird set at that.

One does the passenger's door and boot.
Another does driver's door and ignition.
And one only does the driver's door.

Its going to cost me £15 to get a copy of the one does the passenger's door and boot.
And as the ignition key is chipped the shop told me they can't cut it, and that VW charge £90+!
The other solution was to put the chip on the immobiliser, and then create two blank keys for the chip. Well thats how I understood it.

Anyway anyone else had this problem or know of a cheaper solution?

i kinda have the same problem just not ready or too bothered to sort it out becasue one key for drivers door and boot then one for ignition.

but you if you have central locking then get a fob for that off of ebay, they should be a manual and a code for it to be compatible with the locks

then you have a key for ignition so duplicate that then duplicate the key for drivers door incase something may go wrong or lose the key fob. it will be best to do that in the long run.

Might be an idea to get a new lock set from a scrappy...then youll just need the keys reprogrammed.

Yeh new lock set sounds cheapest, but fair bit of work still.

^^ Like Alex suggested a new set of locks all round is your best bet. Any key cutting shop that does transponder keys could do the job for you and you won't have to go to the dealers. However, they should ask you for proof the motor is yours and it would cost around £25-40.

There have been post's on here about transponder keys before, sometime in 1998 VW changed from a fixed transponder code that any good key cutter can copy, to what's called a rolling code which cant be copied the only option with a rolling code key is VW supply the key £57 +vat then VW dealer codes the key into the ecu £70 + vat that's the quote I've recently had.

Go to the big Leytonestone Tesco. On the far right of their car park there is a Key cutting and laundry shop. They can definetly do any kind of transponder keys, even take the code from the ECU to a blank key. I've seen them do quite modern cars dubs too so there shoudln't be any problems. They did mine for £25 and I had to show proof of ID and ownership of vehicle.
