1.4 MPI vs 1.4TDI

Post by Brad. »

I've been driving alot of diesels lately, then jumping in my car, being petrol + a small engine, it feels horrible.

Would getting the 1.4TDI be a major difference to the MPI?
They can be tuned up as well can't they IIRC?

Ok, thats out the window.
Just looked at insurance for a 1.4TDi, like £2k.
I pay £1.1K atm. Ridiculous

i just bought an MPI and got my tdi on sale. Its a big difference in the speed... Economy on the TDI is great though.

I am 2 months into my insurance and they gave 16 quid back to me as the insurance group for an MPI is lower then the tdi

Urgh. Gonna ring my insurance company, see how much insurance on a TDi would be.
If its not too much i might put my car up for sale to see if theres any interest.

TDi can be tuned nicely, around 115+ I've heard.

Right.
The insurance is only £28 more, half of which is admin fee's.
Looks like my car will be going up for sale soon, and me trying to find a cheap low milage TDi.

Any idea what a pretty standard 60bhp S would be worth?
All in pretty good nick. Just had all the timing belt changed etc, full service.

Anything i should look for on a TDi either?

ok brad i want to welcome you into the tdi world! lol
i bought mine with 64 on the clock and got timing belt changed straight away.. things to look out for are starter motor, regular services as these engines should be maintained with extra care over the petrol models. make sure clutch is in good condition and make sure the fuel filter has been changed if the car is over 40k. apart from that, the normal things like brakes, tyres.. and get it HPI checked.. and one last thing, the gearbox on the petrol is very smooth and the TDi ones might seem more hard or rough. but that is normal

ahaha, thanks for the info man.
Just gotta wait for my bike to sell. (Anybody know anyone who wants a Derbi Senda 50cc? Give me a shout :) )
Then yeah, hopefully i'll buy the TDi, swap some bits over, then sell my car.
