just had car in for 40,000 mile service... £280 plus extra to change brake fluid!!

plus I too have corrosion problem on 3 of my alloys and they have said they will not replace them. Guess I have to try a different dealer next huh?!

Also my car isn't handling very well and asked them to have a look, they said the tyre pressures were wrong, but this seems a bit too obvious to me?!... picking the car up later so will see how it drives...

thought I'd share my bad news as I was hoping for a shiny new set of alloys!

I thought all vw's had something like a 10 year no corrosion warranty or is that just for the bodywork?

think that covers body only... basically he said he VW couldn't be sure I hadn't used and acid based cleaners and therefore would not replace my wheels!

Wheels are only covered for the first 3 years of the cars life under VW warranty, even if the wheels have been replaced during that time the 3 years doesn't get renued.

3 of my wheels have gone to and my car has VW warranty as I bought it off a dealer second hand, they won't touch them, people on here who have had them changed have been very lucky IMO!

Also had some paint corrosion and took it in under warranty, VW managed to get out because the 10 year corrossion warranty is only valid on metal parts, not plastic, so the bubbling paint on my plastic wasn't covered !!!!

I spoke to JBS about the 40k service...

They said Maximum of £200 inc VAT which has the following:

Brake Fluid Change
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Pollen Filter
Oil Filter
Oil Change
4x Spark Plugs
Full Inspection Service
Fault Diagnostic Check
Service Interval Reset
Test Drive

With the UK-Polos.net Discount, you'd be looking at £185 inc VAT!

thanks josh... next time will safe me some money and give them a call... will be out of warranty then also!

BUT... I do have to say that it is now running like a dream (fingers crossed) and... the handling problem does seem to be resolved!

in the meantime must get my wheels sorted somehow...

Whilst on the subject of servicing... next week is the start of May - I've got a 60,000 mile service due for then - can anyone give me a rough idea of what I should expect to pay? On the plus side the timed belts (a 60,000 service must-do according to my handbook) have been done only a couple of months ago under warranty after the tensioner failed, so this shouldn't need to be replaced! I reckon about £250 should cover the bill, including labour and parts - do you guys reckon this'll be enough?!

Oh and should I specifically ask for the gearbox linkages to be tightened (in regards to pedal box thread) whilst they're at it?

One person says they had their alloys replaced by the dealer under warranty... Perhaps it depends on whether you bought them corroded from the dealer?

I had mine in for a 60,000 service on new years eve last year and seem to think it was 175-190 quid mark. Done at Gilders VW Dealer Hillsboro (Sheffield).

Just to let you know, if your car is still under warranty you can get it serviced by a Skoder dealer, they use VAG parts and unlike the VW stealers they don’t charge the earth.

You can get it serviced by almost anyone as long as you can get proof the work was done by a competent dealer. Personally if I had a car as rare/sophisticated as a MK5 GTi the last place i'd take it would be a Skoda dealer (and thats if they'd service it anyway), the only other places i'd take it would be established specialists like JBS etc. VW have the relevant equipment, knowledge and computers to work on them properly.

skoder mechanics are trained in the same facility as VW's as they are the same company! So are just as good. Of course a specialist would be better!! I’d take mine to awesome GTI

A quick update: my car was in yesterday for the 60k service. When I collected her I came back out of the veedub dealership £156 poorer. Not bad, although it would have been more expensive if the belts had been changed as well.

Oh and I asked them to have a look at my A/C - it does need re-gassing after all, at the princely sum of £120.00!!!
