pedal box fail?

Post by Joe_Mk5 »

alright guys, recently noticed a loud creaking noise in the clutch pedal when pushing down and releasing. its starting to get louder by the day and after a search on here im thinking it could be pedal box related
ive read up on the recall for the gtis by vw and also read several people have been able to have the pedal box re welded by vw for free without being a gti, eg a match s or se which sounds promising but most of these posts i saw were a good 2 years old :P
Does anyone know if it would be likely that vw would do the same to my car this late on in the cars life? (2000 year with about 78 / 79 k)

i am covered by the aa parts replacment cover which would mean if any part on my car breaks whilst driving the aa will take it to a garage to be fixed for free for any value up to £500 pound so if vw would not do it what are the possible damages that could happen when a pedal box would fail? i could happily wait untill it breaks and leave it to the aa to pay for fixing as long as there is no danger 8)

any help would be appreciate, also going to check for any breaks in the box tomoro so will keep you all posted!

Generally, VW wont offer goodwill on any car over 60k miles when its that old - its just the way they work unfortunately :(

If the pedal box fails, it can damage the clutch and gearbox dependant on when it fails

how can you check for pedal box damage then? any areas which the damage occurs specifically i.e around edges seams etc

if you get a torch up in the footwell, you can jus about see it. the section prone to failure is the pivot point of the clutch pedal.

Get a torch and mirror and look right up into the footwell. Look out for where the pedals hinge, that's the pedal box. Can you see any cracks, twists etc in the metal?

Aye mate. Well that will help determine the condition of the pedal box anyhow.
