HID kit confusion

Post by vw55raz »

http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps

was reading up on this website and says that it is illegal if u put HID bulbs in a standard set of headlamps... does that mean u have to buy some special headlamps for HID kits??

Yep thats true matey, you need to have projectors in the headlamps, the gti and new gti have this feature as there factory fitted with xenons. The projector basically shines the beam pattern accordingly instead of none projector headlamps which scatter the beam all over producing a glare. and no we do not have projectors in the mk5 headlamps excluding the gti. but you can acutally buy hid kits with anti glare bulbs which i believe are for sale on the HIDS4U website

The anit-glare ones aren't that great though as I've heard.

I've also heard of people passing MOTs fine with HIDs in non-projector headlamps.

HIDs are not recommended to non HID designed lamps, but many MOT testers will pass it - it really depends on how the beam is coming out of the headlight though.

you cannot see if there fine by the naked eye iam afraid, they have a specialist light measuring metre, then they measure the beam etc
