Central locking pump + weird noise

Post by Brad. »

Firstly the Central Locking pump has broken.
The alarm still arms, but even if you lock the door by the key, the pump won't kick in and lock other doors.
So any ideas where to get one from?
Will hella sell one to a Company they supply?
My mum works for a Automotive electrical districution company so she should be able to get hold of one direct from them, or will it be Manufacture only kinda thing?

Secondly, when accellerating, i seem to get a weird noise from the back of the car. Back left ish kinda thing, where the Exhaust exits.
When i put my foot down, there is a kind of "psssssss" noise. Sounds like Air is escaping somewhere. Would my exhaust be blowing? Or what would it sound like etc?

Or is it normal for it to do this!?

Any help much appreciated.

Exhaust sounds like its blowing for the whooshing noise

As for the CL, is your car battery ok? When mine was going flat, the pump wouldnt run

As for replacing it, scrapyard, ebay or a dealer. its not a generic part, or a part available as a copy either.

hmm yeah.
Exhaust sounds expensive. I'll get it checked this week hopefully.
Would that lead to a loss in power btw?

And my car battery seems to be fine.
Any idea how i'd check?

Exhausts arent that expensive - you can get a good quality one from GSF/euro for under £60ish. It can lead to a loss of power if the pressure drops due to a large hole. Get someone to take a look!

Hmm sounds like the pump is foobarred. If the car starts the battery is good enough to run the pump lol

Ah yeah. Car starts everytime, never misses a beat.

Pumps seem to be MEGA expensive. I'll have a ring round etc.
I've never dealt with a scrappy, do i just ring up and ask if they've got the part, or the car or what?

Generally thats the way, or some let you pick your own part :) But they are rarer than gold dust!

Just wanna couble check before i commit to buying a new pump.

It used to unlock everytime on the Keyfob which arms the alarm, never used the key so don't know if it would have worked with them, assume it would etc.
Now, it just doesn't work, the pump makes no noise.
It didn't show any signs of breaking at all, just one day went out and it didn't work...

I would be right in thinking it would be a new pump i need, right?

Sounds like a fuse problem - have you thought to check that?

Yeah, first thing i did. lol
Fuse was fine, i blew it, then put another one in.
I then checked ALL the fuses in the fuse box, and the ones on the battery, aklthough i wasn't convinced about the batteries ones, because i wasn't sure what i was looking for.

Like I advise everyone, just get a mk3 central locking pump.

Loads cheaper & loads more available.

I'm using one in mine atm.

I could probably get hold of one for you aswell, as my mate is breaking a mk3, PM me if interested.

Re: The blowing noise.
Theres a section in the middle of the car, that looks to be a bit rusted at a join.
My thinking is that it *could* be this.
When i find my phone lead (mother moved it a safe place(Y) that now can't be remembered.) i'll upload and people can tell me what they think

Central locking is now fixed. Sweet.

Now, had my exhaust looked at now, yeah it's blowing. As well as the baffles are gone, any idea where i can get the bit from the CAT back...
Or anyidea what its even called, on the bit of paper i got, it says silencer and tubes twice, so i don't quite understand?

Once i've fixed this, the car is being sold hopefully, Any takers?

Center silencer and rear silencer - the pipes are attached. GSF or Euro car parts for those ;)
