Hi there

I've been looking at the forum now for a number of weeks. Sold my MKI Cabbie and picking up my Polo GTi a week today.

It's Diamond Black and simply gorgeous. Can't wait I'm so excited.

The forum is just brilliant. I've learnt so much by looking through all the posts - thanks guys and although there was never any doubt about my choice it did help negotiations with my other half.

He's got a MKIV Golf 1.8T Chipped to 200bhp and he tried to talk me into getting a Golf. I've done the MKII and Cabbie Golf thing so I wanted something a bit different and decided on the Polo.

I've bought from a dealer in Scun thorpe - been trying to find one for weeks. They are pretty rare and they've never been quite right.

It's a 51 plate with 25K on the clock. Immaculate inside and out, full VW Service history and I reckon I got a steal.

With no part exchange I got Â£2K off the forecourt price. I know no-one pays this but I still think I did OK in my bargaining. Even got them to throw in 1 year's RFL.

Anyway think the forum is great and hope I'll make some new friends.

Welcome to the forum, I'm pretty new myself and also think this has been a valuable forum for information, have to say you did well off the forecourt price, I only managed Â£500 !!

Must be those pretty eyes I bet you have !!!

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm getting really impatient about getting the car. Next Monday seems an eon away.

I can't believe the days can go so slowly.

Is there anything I need to be aware of doing or not doing to ensure I get maximum appreciation from my Car.

I think the xenon's are cool and the washer jets are simply ace!!!! Oopps sorry i know this is sad but then surely i'm allowed to be sad and excited about my new arrival.

I'd welcome any advise anyone can give.

Without trying to put a damper on things, if your getting it from VW I'd pay them to put xenon headlamp protectors on it straight away, a cracked headlamp will set you back over Â£400 plus fitting!!!

Other than that, make sure you've got lots of petrol money, coz once you get it i'm sure you'll be driving around for hours!!

Thanks I'd thought about that at some point in my sensible moments between just being completely impatient!!

Do you know how much the protectors are?

Am I likely to get some at GTi international?

As for the petrol....... I just can't see me being at home for the next ...... I'll be out cruising and posing and having fun!!!

So now I've bought my dream car what do I need to know? Apart from the pedal box thing and the alloys anythign else I need to be aware of.

My dealer charged me Â£32 including fitting!

Other things to know hmm ...... nope my cars been brill part from wheels and pedal box !!!

Watch out for guy's/girls thinking they can beat you off the line, that happens to me a lot!!

Well do you beat them????

0-60 is quoted as 8.7 secs is this the real figure?

When I test drove my baby it was well nippy. Not as torquey as my MKII GTi, but faster and much more luxurious.

After a MkI Cabbie I'm going feel like I'm surrounded by luxury! The cabbie was nice - but basic!

I'm up for a dual or 2 but I just love holding off and not giving anyone the satisfaction!!

Are all Polo GTi's affected by this pedal box thing?

Can you tell me what it is in "girl" terms please and how I can tell if there's going to be a problem.

The pedal box problem is not actually a problem with the pedal box initially:

There is a problem with the clutch.

This causes strain on the clutch cable.

The clutch cable frays inside it's sheath (imagine a bike brake cable).

This causes strain on the pedal box (the thing that holds all your pedals in).

It is hard to get into gear.

Your clutch pedal will squeek when depressing it or letting it out.

Finally the pedal box gives up and cracks, meaning you can't get into gear.

You then call up VW Emergency Assistance who tow you to the dealers.

They then replace your clutch assembly (usually charging you for the friction material inside the clutch as this is not at fault, but it is really worth doing while the clutch is in bits - they shouldn't charge you labour on this)... Also your clutch release bearing, clutch cable and pedal box will be replaced.

All under warranty I hope!

If not, expect to pay out a massive whack to a main dealer for the work
