car stereo not working

Hi i have just took a look at my friends car stereo as it is not working. i have checked the fuses , they are fine and there is power to the unit . when i did a continuity test on the remote cable there was nothing. so there must be a break. i can't find where the cable starts from as it runs into the loom. what is the best way to sort this many thx. (the car is a R-reg POLO 1997 1.4)
